Lily has now been here for one whole month!! It's hard to remember life without her. We are starting to figure out the new normal. We are very grateful to have mom and dad in town with this new normal. :)
Lily at 1 months...
- she's already been to the pumpkin patch twice. Once with the family and once on a school field trip.
- moms been watching lily on Monday mornings so that I can still go help in Sams classroom. Which has been helpful for Sam in dealing with the transition. He's still at the age where he likes mommy to be at school. :)
- lily is gaining weight remarkably well. We had to go in this morning and she was 10 pounds, 13 ounces (around the 75th percentile).
- we have had some issues with extreme fussiness and discomfort for about 30 minutes after each feeding. So we are experimenting with being dairy free for a while before trying reflux meds.
- she's been sleeping pretty well. She's up every 4ish hours to eat. Which means she usually eats around 10,2, and 6. This still varies a lot, but we are glad she's sleeping for longer chunks of time and most of the time she goes right back to sleep.
- she smiles in her sleep all the time. We may have seen a couple smirks while awake, but I can't be sure if they were real social smiles or just gas. :)
- she sleeps swaddled in the cradle most of the time, although I still find an excuse to hold her throughout at least one nap a day. I know how fast this phase goes where they sleep all the time, so I want to just enjoy the snuggles of a little baby.
- her umbilical cord fell off at about a week and a half (really early compared to sister).
- she has already outgrown newborn diapers and clothes.
- she has enjoyed help from sister. Emma is always eager to help get diapers and pacifiers for her. She's remarkably old at getting her to take a pacifier or her "nub nub" (wub-a-nub).
Some other things about the siblings adjustment to baby sister...
- Emma thinks she drinks milk from mommy's arm pits.
- when we talk to Lily, Emma likes to remind us that "she can't talk"
- we asked Sam if he wanted to help with a diaper change and he told us "no that's a girls job" I don't know where he got that idea since papa changes lots of diapers. :)
- Samuel is much more mature in his response to Lily than he was to Emma. He is mesmerized when she looks at him or makes funny noises. He even occasionally will ask to hold her.
- They are both very proud to show her off to everyone.
