Samuel participated in a Trike-A-Thon at school a few weeks ago. They talked about bike safety that week and then all the kids brought their bikes to school on Friday to ride around in circles in the parking lot. Samuel was all business out there, no smiles, no complaints.
Getting him to ride his bike is one of the things that tests my patience the most. I am a bit too competitive and Samuel is not! He enjoys riding his bike in short spurts, but does not care to go fast, could care less about racing other kids, and freaks out if he goes down a hill. He stops to talk frequently and takes his hands off his handlebars to point at various things he's taking in along the way. I'm trying to encourage him to try new things and yet not push him to the point where he hates riding. It takes a lot of preparatory speech to get him to give it a try... "Samuel in five minutes we are going to go ride your bike. You are going to go down the hill at the park and I will be at the bottom. It will be so fun to push off and go fast down the hill!" etc. etc. etc. And, there may be some bribes offered as well, "Just ride for two more minutes and then you can have a snack."
Of course Emma could not be left out...

Cute! Something tells me your experience encouraging Emma's bike adventure sense will be a bit different than Sam's : >
Yeah or I can only imagine what it will be like teaching them to drive real cars!! :)
