We moved Samuel up to his crib and he's doing okay with it. The first night was rough, but last night he moved back into his old schedule... sleep at 10:30, wake at 3:30-4:30 and again at 6:30-7. I can't complain about that!

Since he was moved upstairs, I nurse him in his room... where there is no tv (obviously). So, I've been reading whatever book is closest to the rocking chair to entertain myself instead of watching tv. So, I've been reading The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones. It's a great childrens Bible if anyone is looking for a recomendation. In the process of telling the story of the different Bible characters (David and Goliath, Noah and the Ark, Moses and the Burning Bush, etc.) it tells how each of these stories points to the coming of Christ. Every single story ends with the promise of Christ's coming and our need for a Savior. Anyway, I'm enjoying reading it in the middle of the night and thought you might want to check it out as well.

Smiling and Cooing

Samuel's new favorite thing is to watch the music and lights on his Baby Einstein play mat. I recorded him smiling and cooing at it earlier today. It might be a boring video for most of my readers... It takes a lot of recording and waiting to get a smile/coo from him :)

HE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT...

... once. I was told and/or read that at 6 weeks babies start to sleep for longer stretches. Well, on Wednesday Samuel turned 6 weeks and he slept for 7 hours straight! We were so excited. We put him to bed at 10:30 and he didn't wake up again until 5:30am. However, I guess he wanted to make sure we weren't expecting it from him every night, because the last two nights he's been up several times and he's not wanted to go back to sleep after eating. Tonight we are going to try to let him sleep in his crib, in his own room... I think. So, I'm sure that will mess up his sleep patterns as well, but we'll see. I guess we have to wait a little longer to get uninterupted sleep again, oh well... it will happen sometime.

Touchdown!!

Samuel's first smiles!! He's been smiling for about a week now. We weren't sure at first if they were social smiles or just coincidental (Is that spelled right?). Now, we are sure they are social smiles! So fun! I finally caught one on my camera... although it was my phone camera thus the poor quality.

Sam now loves his Baby Einstein mat. The star at the top plays music and lights up. He stares at it and smiles. He's started to acknowledge the other toys on it, but is not coordinated enough to do anything with them. Clara of course had to be a part of things since Sam was on the floor.

We went to the park the other day with some friends. Samuel and Kellen just chillded in the shade on a blanket while the older kids played in the mud puddles.

Labor Day Weekend

We decided to take a short trip to Tulsa this weekend. It was a good trial run to see how car trips will go with a newborn. We brought so much stuff with us! Some of which we did not really need, but it was good to figure that out. Samuel did well in the car... he likes his car seat most of the time, so that's nice. His crying spells could be quieted with a pacifier or bottle for the most part. It was a great trip for Samuel... we went to a friend's (Kari's) parents house and hung out by their pool and watched football. It was easy to continue our normal routine at their house instead of home. I wasn't able to relax by the pool as much as I would have without him, but Kari's mom held him inside during a couple of naps so I wouldn't miss out on anything. Samuel doesn't like to take naps in his crib, so we couldn't lay him down and use the monitor. I didn't think this weekend was a good time to push that :) He'll learn soon enough. He did great at night... slept a 5 hour stretch (10pm to 3am)... the problem was we didn't go to bed till after that 5 hour stretch, so we didn't get to enjoy that uninterupted sleep.

Here's some pics of Samuel relaxing by the pool (early in the morning before it got hot). We tried to let him swim, but the water was too cold for him and he let us know that he didn't like it pretty quickly.

Gigi and Grandaddy (my parents) also came out to visit from Sunday to Monday. They loved holding Samuel, playing dress up with him, and giving him a bath. We (mostly Gigi, but we all helped) got Samuel to smile (or at least react to us socially... you might not call it a smile, or it could have been gas) a few times, but could never catch it on camera. They also babysat so that Bud and I could go out on a breakfast date.
